Long Beach State Has Four Players Named Big West All-Conference

Morgan Chacon, Katie Kennedy, Zayna Meyer, and Dylan Dela Cruz earn All-Big West Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the All-Conference Awards and Long Beach State had four players earn honors. Morgan Chacon, Katie Kennedy, and Zayna Meyer were all selected to the Second Team, while Dylan Dela Cruz earned Honorable Mention. Meyer also garnered All-Freshman Team honors.
Chacon, a redshirt junior outside hitter, earned Big West All-Second Team accolades after leading the Beach with 3.72 kills per set on a .222 attack percentage. Her kills per set average ranked her fourth in The Big West. She also added 2.07 digs per set and 0.38 blocks per set, to go along with 31 service aces. The Crown Point, Ind., native finished the season with 26 double-digit kill performances and five matches in which she recorded 20-plus kills. She led LBSU in scoring 17 times and finished the season with seven double-doubles. Chacon tallied a career-high 26 kills on two separate occasions, and served up a career-best six aces at Cal Poly on Sept. 23.
Kennedy was named to the Big West All-Second Team after having been named to the 2019 Big West All-Freshman Team and the 2021 Big West All-First Team. This season, the junior showed her versatility playing at opposite, middle blocker, and outside hitter as she garnered second team honors after posting 2.73 kills per set as the Beach's second-leading scorer. She also added 0.62 blocks per set and 0.41 digs per set to go along with an attack percentage of .246. The product out of Hood River, Ore., led the Beach in kills five times this season, while registering 15 double-digit kill performances, and two 20-plus kill showings. She also led the squad in blocking defense four times. Kennedy recorded a career-high 23 kills twice and put up a career-best eight blocks on two separate occasions.
Meyer, a redshirt freshman setter, was named to the All-Big West Second Team as well as to the All-Freshman Team after turning in a solid rookie campaign in which she led The Big West with 10.28 assists per set, while also contributing 2.33 digs per set, 0.80 kills per set, 0.69 blocks per set, and 28 service aces, while hitting .291 on the year. The Wheaton, Ill., native led the Beach to a team attack percentage of .223 as she led Long Beach in assists in every match this season. She finished the year with a team-leading 11 double-doubles, and recorded a career-high 64 assists at UC San Diego on Oct. 29. Her career-best 19 digs came at Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 27, while she put up a career-best seven blocks at CSU Bakersfield on Sept. 24.
Dela Cruz rounds out the Long Beach State honorees as the senior libero took home Honorable Mention accolades as she came in second in The Big West with 4.48 digs per set. The local product from Long Beach, Calif., led the Beach in digs 24 times this season and helped LBSU hold its opponents to a .184 attack percentage on the year, which was good for second in the league. Dela Cruz turned in the best season of her collegiate career as she totaled 25 double-digit dig performances, 11 20-plus dig showings, and two 30-plus dig performances. She logged a career-high 34 digs at UC San Diego on Oct. 14, becoming the first LBSU player to record 30-plus digs in a single-match since 2010. Additionally, her 34 digs rank her third in the Long Beach State single-match record book.
