11/26/2022 7:47:00 PM | Women's Basketball

LBSU falls to the home team, USF, 74-50.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – LBSU Women's Basketball fall, 74-50 to the San Francisco Dons despite high energy ending the first half.

The Beach (2-3) shot 34-percent from the field, while the Dons (5-2) shot 47-percent from the floor. The Beach struggled to find their stroke from the hardwood. However, they still competed at a prominent level. Out of the gates, Tori Harris and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher both converted three-point baskets. Three-point shots were being exchanged by both sides in the first quarter. USF's Ioanna Krimili knocked down three triples, shooting 100-percent from the field which kept consistent momentum for the Dons and leading 22-13 to end the first period.

Ending the second quarter, the Beach sought some energy off the bench, and Abby Shoff took full advantage of her opportunity on the floor. She became a spark for the team and ignited her entire squad's energy. Her immediate impact began once she executed a 5-0 run during the 2:45 mark. By this time LBSU cut it down to single digits before being down 13 at the half. Shoff displayed a pleasant offensive punch and kept the Beach within striking distance. Additionally, she added three rebounds, and one steal in a productive second quarter.

Redshirt Senior guard Tori Harris obtained a rhythm, scoring 10 of her 13 points in the second half. Harris looked poised in the second half and positioned herself in scoring opportunities as her teammates found her on open cuts and jump shots. She finished the game on 55-percent shooting from the field, while adding two triples, four rebounds, and one steal.

Senior guard Courtney Murphey executed quality bench production as well. She contributed nine points on 50-percent shooting from the field, while being the leading rebounder for the Beach with six rebounds.

Ultimately, USF pulled away in the second half and shot 61.5-percent from the field in the fourth quarter. They continued to hold their lead until the buzzer sounded. The Dons obtained three players in double figure scoring. Coming off the bench, Debora Dos Santos lead the Dons in scoring with 18 points, while adding five rebounds, two steals, and one block.

The Beach head back home and are back in action Saturday, December 3 as they take on California Baptist at the Walter Pyramid.
