LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State offense was on point in the Beach's 3-0 [25-13, 25-20, 25-20] sweep of UC Davis on Friday night at the Walter Pyramid as LBSU hit a season-high .359 in the contest behind four double-digit kill performances.
The Beach (18-9, 13-6 Big West) hit over .300 in each set, while holding the Aggies (14-15, 9-10 Big West) to a .115 attack percentage.
Long Beach was led by redshirt freshman Zayna Meyer who distributed 31 assists to her top four hitters in Morgan Chacon, Katie Kennedy, Callie Schwarzenbach, and Natalie Glenn who all finished in double-figures. Meyer also added six digs, two aces, and a kill of her on in the contest.
Chacon led the Beach in scoring with 14 kills marking her 25th double-digit kill match of the season. The redshirt junior outside hitter recorded a .361 attack percentage (14-1-36) to go along with five digs and one block. Meanwhile, Kennedy, Schwarzenbach, and Glenn each concluded the match with 10 kills apiece. Schwarzenbach was hot as she recorded her 10 kills on 17 errorless swings for a .588 clip.
In addition to posting 10 kills, Glenn also led the Beach with three aces to tie her career-high, while adding six digs, and two blocks.
Defensively, sophomore middle blocker Kameron Bacon led the way with three blocks at the net and senior libero Dylan Dela Cruz logged 13 digs in the backrow.
The Beach wasted no time getting going as Meyer took the serve and led the Beach to a quick 4-0 lead highlighted by one of her two aces of the match. The Beach never trailed in the first set as they extended their lead to 10 (17-7) on back-to-back kills from Kennedy. As a team, LBSU hit .469 (17-2-32) in the frame as they earned a convincing, 25-13, victory.
UC Davis put up more of a fight in the next two sets as the Aggies jumped out in front 3-1 to start the second set. The game went back and forth until the Beach broke a 14-14 tie, which sparked a 3-0 run. From there, Long Beach strung together five-straight points to open up a 22-15 advantage before winning, 25-20.
The third set was much like the second as it went back and forth between Long Beach State and UC Davis. The Aggies held a 15-14 edge at the media timeout, but the two teams would continue trading points until LBSU found themselves trailing, 20-19. The Beach called a timeout to regroup and that seemed to do the trick as Long Beach came out of the break and closed the set and match on a 6-0 run highlighted by a game-winning kill from Glenn (25-20).
UC Davis' Josephine Ough led the Aggies with 10 kills on a .500 attack percentage (10-1-18), while Shira Lahav logged 13 digs, and Casi Newman posted 17 assists.
Long Beach State closes out the season on Saturday, Nov. 26 against UC Riverside at 7 p.m. Following the match, the Beach will recognize their three seniors in Dylan Dela Cruz, Victoria O'Sullivan, and Callie Schwarzenbach in a postgame ceremony.
