Andee Avery and Erin Lee have committed to Long Beach State for 2023-24.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Golf Head Coach Alyssa Waite has announced that Erin Lee and Andee Avery have both signed National Letters of Intent to join the program next year as true freshman.
"I'm very excited for this recruiting class because these two players will continue to push the current players we have, and build on the foundation that we've started," said Waite.
Andee Avery was the Girls Division Medalist at the AJCA Previews in Meadowbrook last year, shooting back-to-back rounds of 76 as a junior to claim her first victory in the AGJA. Competing in the San Diego Junior Golf Association, Avery also won a tournament and had seven Top 5 finishes in 2020.
"Andee is a solid, reliable player," noted Waite. "I have had my eye on Andee since Day One. I think her consistent play will be a great addition to our program as an unwavering player. She also comes from a family of Long Beach State alumni, giving her a lot of passion for the program and the University."
A Canadian Golfer out of British Columbia, Erin Lee finished as the runner up in her last junior tournament, and has recorded six Top 10 finishes so far this season, including a third-place finish at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship after recording three out of four rounds under par. In all ages competition, she also tied for 35th at last summer's Canadian Women's Amateur Championship.
"Erin is a wonderful player," commented Waite. "I see her as a diamond in the rough. I knew as soon as I saw her play that she would enhance this program. She is a dedicated, hard-working player and possesses that competitive fire that just can't be taught."
After a strong fall season with a number of freshmen supplementing a returning core, Long Beach State finished in the Top 3 in their last two tournaments and are set for a strong spring season. Long Beach State will host their first tournament of 2023, hosting The Beach Invitational at Mission Viejo Country Club on February 27 and 28.
