Three Decorated Sprinters to Join LBSU Track and Field for 2023

The Beach will have three new faces on their sprints squad for the upcoming season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State sprints team is adding three highly decorated student-athletes for the 2023 indoor and outdoor seasons. The trio is made up of two transfers and one freshman.
Women's Commits:
Alex Heerink-van Breda – Freshman; Cape Town, South Africa (University of Stellenbosch)
An international student, Heerink-van Breda comes to Long Beach from South Africa where she competed at the University of Stellenbosch. Competing primarily in the 400m Hurdles, she finished second in the South African U20 Championships. She also recorded top five finishes at the South African Senior Championship and the USSA Championship. She was a five-time individual champion despite missing her senior season due to injury. She owns lifetime-bests of 61.11 in the 400m Hurdles, 12.20 in the 100m, and 25.21 in the 200m.
Men's Commits:
Sydney Peal – Sophomore; Bowie, Md. (Indian Hills CC)
Peal joins the Beach after beginning his collegiate career at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. With the Warriors, he earned All-America honors and posted a 400m time of 47.55 which ranks top five in school history. He was a fifth place finisher as part of the 4x400m at the NJCAA DI Championships after winning the Region XI Championships along with a fourth-place individual finish in the 400m. A three-time High School All-American selection in high school, Peal helped his Bullis School team win two conference championships.
Caleb Roberson – Sophomore; Eastvale, Calif. (San Bernadino Valley College)
Another junior college sprints/hurdles transfer, Roberson comes to Long Beach after a year at San Bernadino Valley College where he earned All-League honors. There, he also set lifetime-bests of 21.42 in the 200m, 48.92 in the 400m, and 42.86 in the 400m Hurdles. A multi-sport athlete in high school, he spent time on the football field as well as the track. Roberson won back-to-back State Championships in the 300m Hurdles in his junior and senior seasons while helping his team win the league championship in his final year.
