Silano, Cox Garner Big West Weekly Honors

Lena Silano was named Offensive Player of the Week and Cherrie Cox was named Freshman Player of the Week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State garnered two more Big West weekly honors this week after a perfect six-point week with wins over UC San Diego and CSUN. Lena Silano was named Offensive Player of the Week and Cherrie Cox was named Freshman of the Week.
This is the third Big West weekly award for Silano this season after having a historic week totaling five goals and two assists against UCSD and CSUN. In Thursday's matchup with the Tritons, she recorded the ninth hat trick in program history and added in an assist to tie the single-game record for most individual points in a game. In an encore performance to her hat trick, she scored two more goals against CSUN including her third game-winner of the season as well as another assist.
She now ranks fourth in the nation in both total points (34) and goals (14) while also ranking top ten in points per game and goals per game. The Aguora Hills native also leads The Big West in every offensive category.
For Cox, this is her second Freshman of the Week honor after scoring two goals and three assists on the week. Against UC San Diego, she scored a goal along with two assists before adding a goal and game-winning assist against CSUN. She has found the back of the net in four consecutive matches with assists in three of those four as well.
The Torrance native currently leads the league's freshmen in every category with five goals, five assists and 15 total points.
The duo combined owns eight multi-point performances with Silano leading the conference with five and Cox ranking second in with three. No other Big West institution has more than one player with multiple such games.
