LA JOLLA, Calif. –
The No. 6 Long Beach State men's volleyball team got back on the winning track with a three-set sweep over No. 12 UC San Diego as the Beach downed the Tritons by set scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 on Friday evening at RIMAC Arena.

The Beach improve to 4-3 overall and in Big West action, while the Tritons drop to 3-8 on the year and 3-4 in the league play. Long Beach State has now won the last 16 meetings against UC San Diego.

LBSU was on-point offensively hitting  a season-high .420 (46-9-88) with three players reaching double digit kills. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Spencer Olivier led the Beach in kills for the seventh time this season with 17 kills, while Ethan Siegfried and Clarke Godbold contributed 11 kills apiece.

Olivier hit a hot .556 (17-2-27), while Godbold turned in an attack percentage of .435 (11-2-1-23), and Siegfried finished with a .318 (11-4-22) clip.

Siegfried also led the Beach from the service line as he registered a new career-high five aces to lead Long Beach State. Additionally, the Honolulu, Hawai'i native was solid on both sides of the ball as he added four digs and two blocks defensively.

Senior setter Ryan Poole distributed 37 assists in the match as he ran another balanced offensive showing. He also posted three blocks, three digs, and two kills.

Leading the LBSU defense was freshman libero Mason Briggs who picked up seven digs in the backrow. At the net, Long Beach State totaled 8.0 team blocks as Godbold and Poole led the way with three each.

The Beach and the Tritons began the match trading points, but Siegfried's first ace of the match sparked a 5-0 Long Beach State run that would put the Beach up 13-9 in the first set. From there, LBSU never looked back as the Beach cruised to a 25-18 win.

The second set was back-and-forth early with UC San Diego holding a slight lead through much of the frame. However, Long Beach State knocked down three-straight points to take a 21-20 edge over the Tritons. Siegfried's third ace of the match sent the Beach to set point (24-23) and LBSU took advantage of a UCSD attack error to earn the 25-23 second-set victory.

Leading two sets to none, Long Beach State pulled out in front of UC San Diego in the third set on a 4-0 run to take a 9-4 advantage. Following a UCSD timeout, the Beach continued to add to their lead as Long Beach State extended its lead by as many as six (17-11) before winning, 25-21 to complete the sweep.

UC San Diego was led by Kyle McCauley's 12 kills and seven digs. The Tritons hit .268 in the match as setter Blake Crisp dished out 26 assists in the match.

Long Beach State and UC San Diego will face each other again on Saturday, April 10 at the Walter Pyramid. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
