LBSU hit over .300 for the sixth time this season as Simon Andersen led the way with a .562 clip and nine kills

LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The No. 6 Long Beach State men's volleyball team picked up its second sweep in as many days as the Beach rolled passed No. 12 UC San Diego, 3-0 [25-20, 25-22, 25-15] on Saturday night at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (5-3 overall, 5-3 Big West) hit .307 on the night marking the sixth time in eight matches LBSU has eclipsed the .300 mark. The Beach have now won 22-straight home conference matches.

UC San Diego (3-9, 3-5 Big West) was limited to a .070 attack percentage as LBSU held the edge in all statistical categories, except digs, which the Tritons led 21-20.

Long Beach State got off to a hot start leading 7-1 to start the match. However, UC San Diego managed to cut the Beach's lead down to one, before LBSU used a 5-0 run to go back up 19-13. The Beach went on to win the first set, 25-20.



The second set was the closet game between the two conference foes. The Beach and the Tritons went back and forth early, before Long Beach State broke a 12-12 tie with a 5-0 run to take a 17-12 lead it would not relinquish. LBSU claimed the second set, 25-22, and took a 2-0 set lead into the third set.

The Beach turned in their strongest performance of the night in the third set as they hit .538 and knocked down 16 kills in the frame. Long Beach opened the set on a 3-0 run and never looked back as the Beach led the entire game. Using another 5-0 run, the Beach extended their lead to 13-4 and led by as many as 11 on several occasions before winning the set and match, 25-15.



Simon Andersen led the LBSU offense with nine kills on .562 hitting as he never committed an attack error. Spencer Olivier and Clarke Godbold each added seven kills, while Ethan Siegfried contributed six.

Ryan Poole got the start at setter again and dished out 25 assists to lead the Beach to a .307 attack percentage. He also contributed two blocks, one dig, one kill, and an ace.

Freshman libero Mason Briggs led the backrow with seven digs, while Olivier put up six blocks at the net. Andersen added four blocks of his own, while Shane Holdaway posted three.

UCSD's Shane Benetz led the way for the Tritons with seven kills on a .455 attack percentage. Setter, Blake Crisp logged 20 assists and two aces, while Kyle McCauley served up a trio of aces in the match.

Defensively, Matt Palma registered eight digs, while Collin Shannon, Charlie Siragusa, and Benetz each recorded a pair of blocks at the net.

Long Beach State closes out the regular season next week against CSUN. The Beach and the Matadors will face off in Northridge, Calif., on Friday, April 16 at 7 p.m., before going head-to-head inside the Walter Pyramid on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
