Beach Opens Big West Tournament With Blowout Of CSUN, 85-63

LAS VEGAS – With the season on the line, Long Beach State responded with a dominating performance, crushing CSUN 85-63 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament on Thursday.
For Long Beach State (6-11), the blowout win was the largest of the season. The 22-point final margin was tied for the second-largest win in Big West Tournament history for LBSU as well as the largest win for the program since the 2015 season.
The Beach led by as many as 30 on the night, and were in control throughout the contest. CSUN (9-13) led briefly at 7-4, but Long Beach State held the Matadors to just 19.4 percent shooting in the first half, and raced out to a 46-26 halftime lead.
Jadon Jones scored 10 points in the first to lead LBSU, and finished the contest with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and a block in 34 minutes in an incredible performance, recording his first double-double as a freshman. Chance Hunter, Joe Hampton and RJ Rhoden also all scored in double-figures for the Beach, who finished the evening shooting 51.6 percent from the floor as opposed to 29 percent on the night for CSUN.
In the second half, Long Beach State would push the lead up to 30 points before turning to the bench to bring the game home over the final nine minutes.
Long Beach State will face the regular season champs in the next round of the tournament. The Beach and UC Santa Barbara will face off in the first game of the day on Thursday, with tipoff set for 11 a.m. on ESPN3.
