Beach Women’s Basketball Trio Earn Big West All-Conference Accolades

Justina King earns First Team and All-Defensive Team honors, while Ma’Qhi Berry is named to the All-Defensive Team, and Patricia Chung is selected to the All-Freshman Team

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Big West Conference announced the 2021 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams Monday morning and Long Beach State was represented by juniors Justina King and Ma'Qhi Berry, as well as freshman Patricia Chung.
King was named to the Big West All-First Team, while she and Berry both garnered All-Defensive Team honors. Chung was named to the All-Freshman Team.
This is the second time in as many years King has been named to the All-Defensive Team, and the first time in her collegiate career she has garnered All-First Team accolades. King is the Beach's leading scorer, as she averages 13.7 points per game, which is good for eighth in the Big West. She also leads the squad with 75 assists to average 3.8 per game to rank seventh in the league.
A solid all-around player, King is second on the team with 42 steals (2.1 per game) which ranks her fifth in the conference. Additionally, King has contributed 64 rebounds and is shooting 34.4 percent from the field on the year. She has led the Beach in scoring nine times this season and has recorded double-figures on 16 occasions.
Berry earned All-Big West Conference honors for the first time in her career with the nod to the All-Defensive Team. The redshirt junior guard prides herself on defense as she is a key component to Long Beach State leading the conference in steals (11.5 per game) this season, a mark that ranks LBSU 11th nationally. Individually, Berry has swiped 36 steals to average 2.0 steals per game, ranking sixth in the league.
Her hard-nosed style of play is evident on both sides of the ball as she averages 9.1 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game, to go along with 49 assists, two blocks, and a field goal percentage of 45.8 percent. Berry has reached double-digits seven times this season and has led LBSU in scoring twice.
Chung, a true freshman out of Mark Keppel High School, wasted no time getting comfortable on the hardwood as she has averaged 6.9 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game while playing in all 20 games, and earning three starts. Chung also adds 20 assists and 14 steals, while shooting a consistent 43.7 percent from the field. She has connected on 24-of-28 from the free throw line.
Additionally, Chung has recorded double-figures five times this season and led the Beach in scoring with a career-high 15-point performance at UC San Diego.
As the No. 3 seed in the Big West Tournament, Long Beach State will take on No. 6 seed Cal Poly in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 10 at 8 p.m., in Las Vegas, Nev. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
