IRVINE, Calif. –
The Long Beach State women's basketball team put an end to its seven-game losing streak in a big way as the Beach rolled over UC Irvine, 80-62, in the regular season finale on Saturday evening at the Bren Events Center.

With the victory, LBSU improves to 12-8 overall and 11-7 in the Big West, while UCI drops to 13-8 on the year and 11-4 in league action.

Despite the win for the Beach, seeding for the Big West Tournament has yet to be determined. Long Beach State will enter the tournament as either a No. 3 or No. 4 seed depending upon the results in tonight's UC Davis-Hawai'i contest. With a Hawai'i loss, LBSU will claim the No. 3 seed, and with a UH win, the Beach will take the No. 4 seed.

The Beach came out firing as Naomi Hunt got things going with a three to start the contest. By 5:35, Long Beach State had extended its lead to double-figures (16-6) on a triple from Kianna Hamilton-Fisher. As a team, LBSU would make 6-of-12 three-pointers in the game.

Long Beach State shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field in the first quarter as the Beach held a 25-14 lead at the end of the opening 10 minutes.

The second quarter saw the hot-shooting Beach extend their lead to 22 (41-19) by 4:31. LBSU knocked down 6-of-13 field goals in the frame and the Beach defense held the Anteaters to just 29.4 shooting to hold a comfortable 43-29 lead at halftime.

LBSU continued its offensive rhythm in the second half. Although UC Irvine chipped away at times, the 'Eaters never managed to completely close the gap as the Beach would push their lead back up nearing 20. By the end of the third quarter, LBSU held a 16-point advantage (63-47).

Long Beach State extended its lead to as many as 24 (76-52) with just 3:12 remaining in the fourth quarter as Hunt continued to sink threes. She would finish the game a perfect 4-for-4 from long distance and an impressive 8-for-9 from the field to accumulate a team-leading 21 points, her second showing in as many days.

In addition to tying her season-high of 21 points, Hunt also added four steals, two rebounds, and an assist. Justina King added 16 points of her own to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Ma'Qhi Berry and Jasmine Hardy each registered 10 points.

Berry led the Beach with six assists, while collecting three steals, meanwhile Hardy cleaned up the glass leading the squad with eight boards.

UC Irvine received solid performances from Jayde Cadee and Chloe Webb who finished the game with 12 and 11 points, respectively. All of Cadee's points came from behind the arc. Webb also led the squad with six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Long Beach State will hit the hardwood next at the Big West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., on Wednesday, March 10. Should the Beach enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, LBSU will play at 8 p.m. against No. 6 seed Cal Poly. Should the Beach earn the No. 4 seed, they will play the yet to be determined No. 5 seed at 2 p.m.
