IRVINE, Calif. –
Long Beach State's struggles continued as the Beach suffered its seventh-straight loss, falling to UC Irvine, 79-70, at the Bren Events Center on Friday evening.

Long Beach State (11-8,10-7 Big West) scored at least 19 points in the second, third, and fourth quarters, but the damage of the single-digit (9) first quarter had already been done as UC Irvine's (13-7, 11-3 Big West) early lead held throughout the game.

The Beach shot 43.1-percent on the night to the Anteaters' 47.4-percent. However, from long distance, UC Irvine connected on 11-of-25 three-pointers, while Long Beach State went 4-for-17. Three of LBSU's triples came from Naomi Hunt as she poured in a season-high 21 points in the game, 14 of which came in the third quarter.

Hunt led a quartet of Beach players who reached double-figures as Kianna Hamilton-Fisher tied her season-best with 14 points, while Jasmine Hardy and Justina King each added 10 points.

Kristyna Jeskeova led the Beach's rebounding efforts with seven boards, while King dished out six assists. The pair each swiped three steals, and Jeskeova put up two blocks for Long Beach State.

The Beach got off to a slow start as UC Irvine used a 13-2 run to close out the first quarter to take the lead as the Anteaters owned a 17-9 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Beach used a 12-0 run of their own in the second quarter to pull within one (24-23) with 4:42 on the clock. However, that was as close as Long Beach State would get as UC Irvine held a 33-30 edge at halftime.

UC Irvine rattled off seven-straight points in the third quarter to take a 47-36 lead as Long Beach State called a timeout to regroup. Following the break in action, the Beach managed to cut the deficit, which went up to 12 (51-39), down to six (51-45) thanks to a three from Hunt. But that was as close at the Beach would get as UCI took a 58-51 lead into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Beach shoot 50-percent from the field as Long Beach State went 6-for-12, however, the Anteaters connected on 7-of-12 to outscore LBSU 21-19. Despite the solid fourth quarter, the Beach were unable to overcome the early deficit as they fell by nine (79-70) on the road.

UC Irvine was led by Chloe Webb who scored 21 points, while Kayla Williams who registered 18, and Sophia Locandro added 10. Williams finished with a double-double as she logged 10 rebounds to go along with six assists and six steals.

Long Beach State will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 6 at 4 p.m. against UC Irvine at the Bren Events Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
