Utti is one of 20 power forwards named to the prestigious preseason list
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State women's basketball senior forward Maddi Utti was named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2022 Katrina McClain Award Preseason watch list on Monday.
Named after two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year Katrina McClain, the annual award is in its fifth year. It recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I College Basketball.
Utti will make her Long Beach State debut this season after transferring from Fresno State. She earned multiple accolades as a Bulldog, including 2020 Mountain West Player of the Year in addition to a First Team All-Mountain West selection in 2020. She was also a two-time Mountain West All-Defensive Team honoree as a junior and sophomore, after earning Mountain West All-Freshman Team honors in 2018.
During her time at Fresno State, Utti appeared in 107 regular season games, averaging 12.5 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, and 1.8 steals per game. Throughout her 2020 Mountain West Player of the Year campaign she was one of five players in the NCAA to average at least 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals per game.
