Ian Gilligan Leads Long Beach State After the First Round at the St. Mary’s Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – After 18 holes at the St. Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club, Long Beach State is 3-over par and in 15th place as freshman Ian Gilligan leads the way.
No. 6 Stanford sits on top of the leaderboard with a 15-under par after the first round, while San Francisco is in second with 7-under par. Santa Clara and Oregon are tied for third with 4-under, while San Diego rounds out the top five with 2-under par.
Long Beach State finished the first round with a 3-over par showing as the Beach are just two strokes out of the top 10 and five strokes from the top 5.
Gilligan, a freshman out of Reno, Nev., is leading the Beach with a 3-under par to tie for ninth place. Gilligan started the day off with a steady par on his first 12 holes, then finished strong with a pair of birdies on holes four and eight, before closing out the first round with an eagle on the ninth hole.
Senior Jack Ainscough finished the opening round with 1-over par, while freshman Steven Deutsch is 2-over. Both Clay Seeber and Isaac Rodea are tied with 3-over par showings after the first 18 holes.
