LBSU Heads to Sacramento for NCAA West Regionals

The Beach will fly north for the NCAA West Regional meet, hosted by Sacramento State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is heading to Sacramento for the NCAA West Regionals this Friday. The meet will be hosted by Sacramento State with the women running a 6K race and the men running a 10K race.

Time: Women's 6K - 10am; Men's 10K - 11am

The Beach are coming off their best showing at the conference championships in several years. The men's fifth place finish marked their best since 2018 and the women's sixth place finish was the best for the program since 2017.
Michael Phillips was named to the All-Big West team with a time of 24:12.7 putting him in seventh place. It was a personal best for the junior transfer and ranked as the sixth fastest 8K time in program history.
On the women's side, Ryley Fick crossed the line first for the Beach. Her time of 21:04.6 was just shy of her lifetime-best and put her in thirteenth place.
Long Beach State's last time at the NCAA West Regionals was in 2019 where the men finished 21st of 28 and the women finished 32nd of 35 teams. Of the returners from that meet, Tiana Prince was the highest finisher for the LBSU women, posting a time of 22:52.6 while Raymon Ornelas' time of 31:20.9 was the fastest mark for the men's team.
The top two teams of each regional will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships with 13 more at-large bids open for the remaining teams across the country. Individually, 38 additional runners have a chance to qualify for the championships if their team does not. The runner must finish in the top 25 of their regional to have a chance to qualify.
The NCAA Championships will be held in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
