LBSU Tennis Sweep Friday at the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament

The Beach went 3-0 in doubles play and 4-0 in singles play.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - LBSU Tennis opened play at the Beach Fall Tennis Tournament on Friday and did not drop a single match, going 3-0 in doubles play and 4-0 in singles action.
"This was a very good start to the weekend," said Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "Everyone competed well today, and we saw a lot of really good tennis. All-in-all this is a great start to the weekend, and we are looking forward to building off this success."
The Beach set the tone early as all three doubles pairings earned opening round wins at the Rhodes Tennis Center. In the A flight, the new pairing of Zara Lennon and Claire Le Du cruised to a 6-1 win, and Nikola Homolkova and Sheena Masuda also earned a 6-3 win. Also in doubles action Arina Babkova and Zuzanna Szczepanska completed the doubles sweep for the Beach, with a 6-2 win. Long Beach State is now 6-0 in their last six doubles matches.
Long Beach State carried that winning momentum into singles play. Fresh off her title winning campaign in San Diego, Claire Le Du won her opening round match 6-2, 7-6 (3) in flight A. Also in flight A, Homolkova battled her way to a three-set win. After dropping the first set 2-6, Homolkova fought her way back with a resounding 6-1 set two win, and then wrapped up the match with a 6-3 final set win to advance to the quarterfinals. In flight B, Szczepanska earned the first straight-sets singles win of the year 6-4, 6-4 over Emily Fowler of UC Irvine. Finally, Andreea Ciornei also won in straight sets, running out a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Jasmine Tolmoyan of CSUN in flight C.
Lennon and Babkova in flight A, and Masuda in flight C all had opening round byes and will compete in the singles quarterfinals on Saturday.
Action continues Saturday at 9 a.m. with doubles play, followed by singles matchups.
