A Statement From Andy Fee Regarding Spring Sports
1/15/2021 11:12:00 AM | General
The Big West Board of Directors cleared the way for a return for most sports on Friday.
"Earlier today, the Big West Conference Board of Directors met and came to the decision to move forward with restarting competition for sports other than men's and women's basketball. That decision from the Big West Conference is very positive news, and we're committed to moving forward with participating in spring sports along with the rest of the league.
Â
Thanks to the efforts of our teams, our staff, the university and city and county public health officials, we've been able to collaborate to provide the safest atmosphere possible for practice and competition for men's and women's basketball.
Â
We're excited to be working with those same partners as we move forward in the process of restarting practice and beginning competition for the 10 spring sports at Long Beach State that had their seasons interrupted due to the pandemic last March. I am sure there will be challenges as we take this next step, but we are all excited for the opportunity that has been presented to offer a 2021 spring season to over 250 student-athletes at Long Beach State."
