Both programs scored a perfect 1,000 in the latest APR report.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – As part of the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate program, prior to the full announcement of APR scores the NCAA recognizes programs that finish in the Top 10 percent of all schools nationally, and Long Beach State's Beach Volleyball and Women's Golf programs both received recognition in 2020 after once again recording perfect scores of 1,000.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
For the second year in a row and sixth time in the last seven years, Women's Golf finished with a perfect 1,000 score under head coach Joey Cerulle.
Additionally, Beach Volleyball again recorded a perfect 1,000 for the third straight season, the three campaigns that have been registered since the sport gained championship status from the NCAA.
The APR was developed by the NCAA in 2004 to measure the academic progress and performance of athletic programs at its member institutions. The APR is determined by using the eligibility and retention for each student-athlete on scholarship during a particular academic year. Student-athletes are awarded one point for each semester they are enrolled and one point for each semester they are eligible for intercollegiate competition. A student-athlete can earn a maximum of two points per semester and a maximum of four points during an academic year.
The APR is calculated by taking the number of possible points for a particular sport and dividing that number by the total number of points earned from student-athlete retention and eligibility over the same period of time. The percentage is then multiplied by 1,000 to get the actual APR.
