Beach Tennis Earns 5-2 Victory Over Memphis

Long Beach State dominates singles action en route to win
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After having their match delayed more than two hours due to inclement weather, the Long Beach State women's tennis team showed its grit by bouncing back and wining a 5-2 contest over Memphis on Tuesday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The Beach (8-4) and the Tigers (8-5) began the day with singles competition to ensure getting the match in. Long Beach State came out swinging as the Beach were quick to get four points on the board rolling passed the Tigers with wins in sets 5, 1, 3 and 6.
Zara Lennon, who was playing at Court No. 5, got things going with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, and Natalia Munoz, who was playing at No. 1, followed suit with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Memphis' top player, Alisha Reayer.
Emma Bardet put the Beach up 3-0 with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Aran Teixido-Garcia at No. 3, before Lalita Devarakonda solidified the LBSU victory with a 7-6, 6-4 win over No. 6 Katherine Cao of Memphis.
Memphis claimed its only point of singles action at Court No. 3 as Wiktoria Rutkowska suffered a 6-1, 7-6, 5-4 (ret.) set back to the Tigers' Laura Bente. However, LBSU bounced right back with a victory at No. 4 as Sadaf Sadeghvaziri took down Monique Woog in three sets (6-3, 6-7, 6-2).
With the weather cooperating, the two teams were able to get doubles action in and Memphis made the most of it, sweeping the Beach for its second point of the match.
Long Beach State will host Youngstown State on Friday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center. Live scoring of the match will be available on BeachLiveStats.com.
