Beach Winning Streak Snapped in 68-44 Loss at Hawai’i

Long Beach State dropped its road test on Saturday night at Hawai’i, suffering a 68-44 setback that snapped LBSU’s four-game winning streak. Shanaijah Davison had 14 points for the Beach and Justina King added 12.
HONOLULU -- Coming off a double-overtime victory, Long Beach State (10-11, 5-3 Big West) was unable to make the quick turnaround in its trip to Hawai'i (10-10, 4-3 Big West), suffering a 68-44 defeat on Saturday at Stan Sheriff Center. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Beach, and splits the regular season series with the Rainbow Wahine.
Shanaijah Davison was the leading scorer for the Beach with 14 points. She also tied for the team lead with three steals, joined at that number by Justina King who also added 12 points. Lauren Green was a perfect 3/3 from the floor, finishing with eight points, three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. LBSU snagged 11 steals in the game while forcing 19 Hawai'i turnovers, but only converted nine points from those opportunities.
Rebounding gave a big edge to the Rainbow Wahine as they were able to turn 14 offensive rebounds into 14 second-chance points. The Beach also shot just 2/14 from long range inside Stan Sheriff Center while UH went 12/26 in their home arena.
The Beach had its most productive quarter coming out of halftime, shooting 50 percent from the floor in the third quarter to score 17 points in the frame. Unfortunately, Hawai'i was able to score 22 in the quarter to extend its halftime advantage.
Long Beach State will have a week to regroup before going back out on the road. The Beach will visit Cal Poly next Saturday for a 2 p.m. showdown with the Mustangs to begin the second half of Big West play.
