Women's Hoops Hosts Bethesda in Exhibition Contest
After a holiday break hiatus, the Long Beach State women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, January 4 at 2 p.m. as the Beach welcome Bethesda to the Walter Pyramid for an exhibition contest. The game will be a doubleheader with LBSU men's basketball as the Beach take on Cal State LA after the women's game.

About The Beach
• Long Beach State closed out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 5-8 record.
• Before jumping into Big West Conference action, LBSU will get a tune up against Bethesda in an exhibition game before hosting Cal Poly in league action on Thursday, Jan. 9.
• The Beach are averaging 58.8 points per game as they have connected on 283-of-766 field goals for a shooting percentage of 36.9.
• As a team, Long Beach State is averaging 32.2 rebounds per game to go along with 11.2 assists per game, 11.0 steals per game, and 2.2 blocks per game.
• LBSU leads the Big West in steals per game (11.0) and turnover margin (+6.5) as the Beach have forced their opponents into 271 turnovers this season.
• Junior guard Shanaijah Davison leads the team with 13.3 points per game, while sophomore Justina King contributes 12.9 points per game. 
Cydnee Kinslow is the team's leading rebounder with 6.4 boards per game. She has racked up three double-figure rebounding games so far and has led the squad in boards on seven occasions. 
Ma'Qhi Berry leads the Beach with 33 steals to average 2.5 per game which is tops in the Big West. She leads a quartet of LBSU players who rank in the top 15 in the league.
• King is the Beach's leader in assists with 38 to average 3.4 assists per game to rank seventh in the Big West.
Lauren Green is the team's leader in blocks as the sophomore forward has put up eight on the year so far, while Kinslow and Jasmine Hardy right behind her with six each.
• Long Beach State has officially changed the nickname for all sports other than baseball to Beach with the NCAA. Please do not refer to LBSU basketball as the 49ers.

Scouting Bethesda
Bethesda comes into the exhibition game against Long Beach State with an 0-22 record as the Flames have struggled offensively this season. The Flames are averaging 46.4 points per game, while giving up 85.4 to opponents.

The Flames have a roster of eight players as Tanika Stephenson leads the squad with 15.8 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. She also is the team's leader in steals with 48 and assists with 49.

Joining Stephenson in averaging double figures is Denshay Wallace who has contributed an average of 12.3 points per game on the year. 

The Series: The Beach vs. The Flames
Long Beach State and Bethesda will meet for the first time in program history.

Offensive Output
The Beach have a pair of players averaging double-figures. Additionally, Long Beach State has already seen three different players turn in 20-point performances. Junior Shanaijah Davison leads the Beach with 13.3 points per game after notching a pair of 20-point efforts. She most recently poured in a season-high 26 points in an overtime victory against Air Force on Dec. 18. Second on the squad in scoring is sophomore Justina King who is averaging 12.9 points per game. She picked up her third 20-point performance of the season after tallying 20 points in a win over UT Rio Grande Valley at the Women of Troy Classic. Rounding out the group of 20-point scorers for the Beach is redshirt sophomore Ma'Qhi Berry who recorded a 22-point showing against Loyola Marymount on Nov. 23.

Defensively Strong
Long Beach State has been defensively sound this season as the Beach lead the Big West Conference in steals with 143 to average 11.0 per game. LBSU has forced 271 turnovers (20.8 per game) as the team boasts a turnover margin of +6.5 to lead the conference.

Countdown to 1,000
Junior guard Shanaijah Davison leads Long Beach State in scoring with 13.3 points per game. She has racked up 993 career points and is just seven points shy of becoming the 26th LBSU women's basketball player to accomplish that feat. Davison most recently poured in a season-high 26 points in Long Beach State's overtime victory against Air Force. Her career-high of 34 points came last season in the home opener against California Baptist on Nov. 9, 2018.

Cleaning up the Glass
Senior forward Cydnee Kinslow is leading the rebounding charge for Long Beach State. She has grabbed double-digit boards in three of the Beach's games so far to average 6.4 rebounds per game. The Oakley, Calif., native has done a solid job cleaning up the glass as she collected 11 rebounds at California Baptist in the season opener, then turned around and registered 11 boards at then-No. 11 UCLA. She set a new career-high with 12 rebounds against Utah State en route to a double-double as she added 13 points.

King is Queen
Sophomore guard Justina King has dished out 38 assists this season to set the pace for LBSU. Additionally, she adds 12.9 points per game to go along with 2.0 rebounds per game, and 25 steals. King totaled 29 points, five assists, four steals, and two rebounds at the Cal Classic to help the Beach to a second-place finish as she was named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Berry Good
Redshirt sophomore Ma'Qhi Berry returned to the court after redshirting a year ago and has made an immediate impact for Long Beach State. The guard out of Irving, Texas is averaging 9.2 points per game to go along with 3.9 rebounds per game, while adding a team-leading 33 steals, and 28 assists. She racked up a career-high 22 points against Loyola Marymount and has recorded six double-figure performances thus far. Berry has been efficient from the field shooting 46.6 percent as she has connected on 48-of-103 field goals. 

Green Machines
Long Beach State's Lauren Green and Aaryon Green are not related, but both give the Beach solid play when on the court. Lauren Green is a sophomore forward from Tucson, Ariz., while Aaryon Green is a redshirt senior out of Rialto, Calif. Lauren has started in 9-of-13 games so far and leads the team with eight blocks, while adding 4.3 rebounds per game, 3.9 points per game, and 15 steals. Meanwhile, Aaryon has earned six starts thus far and has registered 3.1 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, nine steals, seven assists, and two blocks.
