Beach Soccer Shuts Out Drexel, 3-0

Long Beach State kept its first clean sheet of the season and earned a 3-0 victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon. Myah Baksh scored in the first half for the Beach and Elysia Laramie and Katie Pingel added goals after halftime for the Beach.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (2-3-0) picked up a 3-0 victory over Drexel (2-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at George Allen Field, as the Beach defense kept its first clean sheet of the season. Myah Baksh, Elysia Laramie and Katie Pingel were the goal scorers for Long Beach, giving the team seven different goals scorers so far this season.
The Beach had 12 shots in each half, outshooting the Dragons 24-7 on the day. There was also a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal for Long Beach State. A total of 15 players took at least one shot for the Beach, led by Lena Silano with four. Eleven players put shots on goal for the Beach, led by Sierra Castles with three.
Long Beach State opened the scoring just before halftime on a free kick by Baksh in the 43rd minute. The Santa Clara transfer sent the ball into the area, where it took a bounce and deflected up and over the Drexel goalkeeper to put the Beach up, 1-0.
After halftime, the Beach continued to apply pressure and scored off a corner kick in the 66th minute. Pingel sent a dangerous ball through the penalty box that found Laramie waiting at the back post. The sophomore forward/defender sent the ball back across the face of goal and into the far side of the net to double the Long Beach lead. It was the second assist of the season for Pingel, giving her the outright team lead.

For the third and final goal, Pingel was able to score her first goal of the season off an assist from Sarah Pilster. The pass came in from Pilster along the left side, past Jada Thomas, where Pingel was able to receive it, get past her defender, and finish the chance to make it a 3-0 lead in the 80th minute.

Marta Alemany Sanchez secured her first shutout for Long Beach State, making a pair of saves. Her stop in the first half in a one-on-one situation was a key moment that kept the match scoreless in the 20th minute.
After playing its first five games on its home pitch, Long Beach State will hit the road next weekend for a pair of matches in Dallas, Tex. First up is a neutral site match against Ole Miss on Thursday at 2 p.m. PT.
