Long Beach State Drops Neutral Site Match with Ole Miss, 3-0

The Beach held healthy advantages in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks, but the Rebels were able to make more of their chances in a 3-0 win on Thursday afternoon. Long Beach State will stay in Dallas for the weekend to face SMU on Sunday.

DALLAS – Playing its first match away from home this season, Long Beach State (2-4-0) suffered a 3-0 defeat against Ole Miss (6-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at a neutral site match hosted by SMU. The Rebels took the early lead less than two minutes into the match and would add a pair of second-half goals to secure the win.

Despite the loss, Long Beach State had a distinct advantage in shots (18-8), shots on goal (8-4) and corner kicks (8-3) in the match. Mackenzie Magaoay and Lena Silano each had four shots to lead the Beach and match their career highs. Silano also put a match-high three shots on frame.

Ole Miss came out and snagged the lead with 1:46 gone off the clock, and that would be the Rebels' only shot on target in the first 45 minutes. The Beach responded to the goal by attempting the next four shots, but were unable to break through.

The Beach started the second half on the front foot, attempting the first three shots of the half, but Ole Miss scored on its first attempt to double the lead in the 52^nd minute. Ole Miss capped the scoring in the 72^nd minute with its third goal to win its first ever meeting with Long Beach State.

The trip continues on Sunday for the Beach as they take on hosts SMU at 11 a.m. PT. There will be live stats and a live stream available for the match with the Mustangs.
