Long Beach State took the lead on a successful penalty kick from junior Kaylee Ramirez in the 55th minute, but the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers were able to respond with a pair of second-half goals to pick up a 2-1 victory.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach (1-3-0) took a lead in the 55th minute with a penalty kick goal from Kaylee Ramirez, but Nebraska (1-2-1) answered with a pair of goals to secure its first win of the season, 2-1.

The teams were scoreless at halftime, with the Huskers putting three shots on frame to Long Beach State's two in the first 45 minutes. Both shots from Ramirez were on frame, including her goal from the penalty spot. It's Ramirez's first goal of the season and the second of her career.
The penalty kick was set up by an aggressive run through the penalty area by Katie Pingel. She was played into a dangerous position on a through ball from Mackenzie Magaoay, and was able to dribble past the approaching Nebraska keeper. Pingel was tripped on her way by and went to ground, earning the penalty try for the Beach.

Nebraska responded in the 66th minute as Dakota Chan scored from distance, sending a ball into the upper corner of the goal to tie the game, 1-1. Ten minutes later, the Cornhuskers scored the go-ahead goal off a corner kick, as Sinclaire Miramontez raced forward and scorched a one-time shot into the back of the net.

Freshman Aleea Caceres led the Beach with three shots, setting a new career high. In addition to her key pass that led to Long Beach's goal, Magaoay also had a shot in 35 minutes off the bench.

The Beach will be back at George Allen Field on Sunday to host Drexel at Noon, finishing off a five-match homestand.
