Four Dirtbags Earn All-Big West Honors

Long Beach State had four players named to the 2019 All-Big West Baseball Team on Wednesday, led by junior Jacob Hughey as a second team selection at first base. The other honorees were sophomores Chris Jimenez and Adam Seminaris, along with senior Laine Huffman.
IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West revealed the 2019 All-Conference team for baseball on Wednesday, and four Dirtbags were recognized for their performance this season. Junior Jacob Hughey earned Second Team All-Big West honors, while Chris Jimenez, Laine Huffman and Adam Seminaris each picked up an Honorable Mention nod.
Hughey was Long Beach State's leading hitter, batting .324 on the year with a team-leading 13 doubles and 26 RBIs. Hughey was also second on the team with 20 walks, posting a solid .387 on-base percentage. The Long Beach native was an even bigger force during conference action, hitting .366 against Big West opponents, scoring 15 runs and collecting 34 hits while starting all 24 conference games. That .366 average was the sixth-best among all Big West hitters during conference action. The Second Team selection is the first All-Conference selection in Hughey's career.
Sophomore Chris Jimenez picked up his first All-Conference nod as an Honorable Mention honoree. The catcher/designated hitter led the Dirtbags with 22 walks, helping his team-high .447 OBP. Jimenez hit .300 for the season but batted .311 in conference play. He walked more than he struck out this season, with just 21 whiffs compared to his 22 walks.
Senior Laine Huffman also picked up an Honorable Mention nod, earning his second career All-Big West selection. Huffman was also an Honorable Mention honoree in 2017, earning that status as a shortstop. Playing primarily at second base this season, Huffman led the Dirtbags with 11 RBIs during Big West play. Huffman was second on the team among qualified batters and was second in sacrifice bunts with 11 on the year.
Finally, sophomore lefthander Adam Seminaris was LBSU's final Honorable Mention selection. The southpaw was LBSU's primary Friday starter this year, going 4-9 with a 3.35 ERA. Seminaris led Long Beach State with 94 innings pitched and 74 strikeouts, and ended the season on a solid run. Over his final two starts. Seminaris did not allow an earned run in 15 combined innings against Cal State Fullerton and Hawai'i. He had 12 strikeouts and just two walks in those starts, and posted the first complete game shutout of his career in a 3-0 win over Hawai'i. Seminaris faced just three batters over the minimum to record the best outing of his Dirtbags career to cap his sophomore season.
