Long Beach State took the lead in the 42nd minute on a penalty kick goal by Elysia Laramie, but Hawai’i was able to find a second-half equalizer as LBSU settled for its first tie of the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sunday afternoon's regular season finale went back-and-forth for a full 110 minutes on George Allen Field with Long Beach State (4-12-1, 2-5-1 Big West) and Hawai'i (6-7-4, 4-1-3 Big West) playing to a 1-1 tie. The teams combined for 31 shots on the day, with LBSU holding a 17-14 advantage.
The Beach had a number of chances in the opening half, including a shot off the top of the crossbar in the 19th minute by senior Katie Pingel. The LBSU goal came via a Hawai'i miscue as a handball in the penalty area set up Elysia Laramie for a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. The sophomore went right down the middle for the go-ahead goal, her sixth tally of the season to lead the Beach. Laramie had a career-high eight shots in the match, with three of them on target.
Pingel added in three shots of her own, with six other Beach players chipping in one attempt apiece. Ashley Seymour played a career-high 110 minutes in the match while collecting four saves.
UH broke through for its equalizer in the 64th minute as a ball played to the top of the penalty area was smashed in by Morgan Meza.
Each side had 13 fouls in regulation, and there were three yellow cards issued, with two going to the Beach and one going against Hawai'i.
Prior to the match, Long Beach State honored its three departing seniors: Pingel, Ayana Robles, and Taylor Bistline.
