LONG BEACH, Calif. – After helping Long Beach State capture back-to-back NCAA National Championships, associate head coach Nick MacRae will head the 2020 Boys Youth National Team. The announcement was made by USA Volleyball Thursday morning.
MacRae is in his seventh season at Long Beach State and in that time has helped produce eight AVCA All-Americans, two AVCA National Players of the Year, four-straight Final Four appearances, and two NCAA National Championships.
The 2018 AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year and 2017 AVCA Thirty Under 30 Award recipient headlines a decorated staff which consists of Riley Salmon, a 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist who is also the head coach at the University of Jamestown, and Ben Duckworth, the assistant coach at Lindenwood.
"I am honored to represent the United States and our youth volleyball program," MacRae told USA Volleyball. "Riley Salmon and Ben Duckworth are two of the best coaches in the sport and will round out this Youth National Team staff in a huge way. They bring a wealth of National- and Olympic-level knowledge. They have both coaching and playing experience, and they share an all-world work ethic."
MacRae will begin work with the squad at the 2019 Boys Holiday Training Program in San Diego, Calif., Dec. 26 – 30.
"We will begin to establish our Youth National Team culture," MacRae explained. "We will focus on building trust and communication through this upcoming cycle. Through training our USA Volleyball system, we will prepare these young men on the Boys Youth National Team for the various styles of play they will face at NORCECA."
The Boys Youth National Team will compete at the 2020 NORCECA U19 Championship as they look to qualify for the 2020 FIVB U19 World Championship.
