Cydnee Kinslow recorded a double-double for the Beach with 13 points and 12 rebounds while going 5/6 from the floor, but Long Beach State struggled offensively in the second half of Monday’s 56-48 loss to Utah State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach (1-3) came out firing on Monday night, led by 11 first-quarter points from senior Cydnee Kinslow, but the offense lost steam in the second half of a 56-48 loss to Utah State (2-1) at Walter Pyramid. Kinslow recorded her first double-double of the season and second of her career to lead Long Beach State, finishing with a team-high 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
Kinslow was efficient offensively, going 5/6 from the floor while making all three of her attempts from beyond the arc. She also filled the stat sheet for the Beach with three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Freshman Alexis Legan was also a perfect 3/3 from long distance to add nine points off the bench. Her triple with 14 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Beach a 28-26 halftime lead.
LBSU was 7/14 in the opening 10 minutes to lead by as many as nine points, and held a 17-13 lead after one quarter. Unfortunately, the Beach couldn't maintain that offensive production throughout the night. After going 5/11 from distance in the opening 20 minutes, LBSU was just 1/9 on three-pointers in the second half.
The Beach forced 19 turnovers on the night, getting 21 points from turnovers fueled by 10 steals. LBSU also had a 19-8 advantage in points off the bench, with Shanaijah Davison putting in 10 points in addition to Legan's nine off the pine.
Next up for the Beach is a Saturday afternoon clash with Loyola Marymount at Walter Pyramid. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. against the Lions.
