LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Ma'Qhi Berry and Justina King teamed up to score 45 points in Long Beach State's 70-57 loss against Loyola Marymount on Saturday evening at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (1-4) started the game off strong and led the Lions (2-3), 29-27 at halftime, but Loyola Marymount heated up in the second half and outshot LBSU 60 percent (15-for-25) to 29.6 percent (8-for-27).

King led all scorers with a season-high 23 points as she connected on 7-of-15 field goals and made eight of her 11 free throws. Berry poured in a career-high 22 points knocking down 8-of-12 field goals, while making six free throws. The duo combined for nearly 80 percent of Long Beach State's points, while Jasmine Hardy (7 points), Lauren Green (2 points), Kianna Hamilton-Fisher (2 points), and Aaryon Green (1 point) rounded out the Beach's scorers.

 
Long Beach State played solid defense swiping 14 steals as Berry (5 steals) and King (4 steals) set the tone on the other side of the ball as well. The Beach forced the Lions into 25 turnovers and produced 30 points from turnovers.

Meanwhile, LMU was led by Raychel Stanley's 19 point-effort, while Ciera Ellington and Chelsey Gipson each added 14 points.

The biggest difference maker in the game was rebounding as LMU grabbed 45 boards to LBSU's 25.

The Beach led by as many as nine (23-14) in the first half, before taking a two-point lead (29-27) in the locker room at halftime. The second half, however, saw the Lions turn the tables on Long Beach State as LMU outscored the Beach, 21-12 in the third quarter to take a 48-41 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

The fourth quarter saw the Lions outshoot the Beach 77.8 percent (7-for-9) to 30.8 percent (4-for-13) as Loyola Marymount extended its lead up to 16 (66-53), before defeating Long Beach State, 70-57.

LBSU looks to snap its three-game losing skid next week at the Cal Classic when the Beach take on Penn State on Friday, Nov. 29 at 3:15 p.m.
