EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Hailey Harward notched a double-double and was named to the Oregon Classic All-Tournament Team, but the Long Beach State women's volleyball team came up short against Utah Valley as the Beach dropped a 3-1 [25-21, 21-25, 17-25, 19-25] decision to the Wolverines on Saturday.
With the setback, Long Beach State drops to 3-4 on the year, while Utah Valley moves to 4-3.
Harward finished the match with 14 kills and 11 digs, while adding two blocks and an ace to lead the team. The double-double is her fourth of season. Contributing in the backrow was freshman libero Carly Hill who posted 17 digs to lead the Beach.
Long Beach State ran a 6-2 offense with Carly Aigner-Swesey and Mina Andjelkovic platooning at setter as the duo combined for 41 assists. Aigner-Swesey finished the contest with 21 helpers, while Andjelovic added 20.
Freshman Allison Martinez came off the bench and hit .318 in the match as she knocked down nine kills on 22 attempts, while committing just two attack errors. Martinez also contributed three blocks and two digs.
The Beach started the match off strong winning the first set by a score of 25-21. Long Beach State and Utah Valley swapped leads nine times in the second set, before the Wolverines emerged victorious, 25-21.
With the match split 1-1, Utah Valley claimed the third set, 25-17 as they hit .321 while holding the Beach to a .161 attack percentage. Long Beach State's woes continued into the fourth set as it hit .129 to the Wolverines' .429, falling 25-19.
Long Beach State returns home to the Walter Pyramid for a Monday morning contest against Texas Tech as the Beach host the Red Raiders on Labor Day (Sept. 3) at 11 a.m.
