
Strong Offensive Performance Lifts LBSU Over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Oregon Classic

The Beach hit .422 as they rolled past the Lady Lions in straight sets

EUGENE, Ore. – The Long Beach State women's volleyball team posted its highest hitting percentage of the young season (.422) as the Beach rolled over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in straight sets [25-12, 25-18, 25-9] on Friday at the Oregon Classic.
The Beach (3-2) received strong offensive performances from several players as junior Hailey Harward led the way with a team-best 11 kills. She hit a career-high .733 as she connected for 11 kills on 15 attempts without committing an error.
Joining Harward in a flawless effort was senior Megan Kruidhof who also had a career-best attack percentage (.833) as she slammed five kills on six attempts without an attack error.
Long Beach State's defense stepped things up and kept Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-4) guessing as the Beach forced the Lady Lions into a negative attack percentage (-.038). The Beach defense was piloted by freshman libero Carly Hill who collected 13 digs. She has now led the team in digs all five matches this season.
At the net, LBSU posted 8.0 total team blocks. Senior Emma Kirst, junior YiZhi Xue, and freshman Allison Martinez led the way with three blocks each.
The Beach led throughout each set, beginning each frame on a run of at least four straight points. LBSU opened the match on a 4-0, kicked off the second set on a 7-0 run, and started the third set on a 5-0 run.
The first set saw Long Beach State hit a sizzling .500 (19-3-32) with a sideout percentage of 75. The Beach jumped out to a 10-2 advantage as the Lady Lions called for a timeout. The break in action did little to stop the Beach as they continued on their offensive tear and extended their lead to double digits, before cruising to a 25-12 victory.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff had its best showing in the second set as the Lady Lions mustered a .042 attack percentage. However, Long Beach State's early 7-0 lead highlighted by a pair of aces by Megan Kruidhof kept the Lady Lions at a distance throughout the game. The Beach held the lead the entire set and went on to win, 25-18.
In the third and final set, Long Beach State held the Lady Lions to just nine points marking the first time the Beach held an opponent to single digits since 2016. LSBU hit .571 – their highest attack percentage of the match – and posted an impressive sideout percentage of 88 as it rolled to a 25-9 victory.
Long Beach State will be back in action tonight at 8 p.m. when it goes up against No. 18 Oregon.
