Long Beach State Falls to Shanghai Pro Team in Mid-Week Exhibition Contest

LONG BEACH – The Long Beach State women's volleyball team hosted the Shanghai Pro Team in a mid-week exhibition match on Wednesday night inside the Walter Pyramid. The predetermined four-set match saw the Beach fall by a score of 4-0 [21-25, 19-25, 21-25, 13-15].
LBSU used the contest as an opportunity to give several players court time as the Beach utilized 15 players on their 17-person roster.
The Shanghai Pro Team hit .339 and posted 9.0 blocks, while keeping Long Beach State off balance en route to a .185 attack percentage.
Junior YiZhi Xue, a native of Nanjing, China, had a solid night as she recorded 12 kills while hitting .500. Joining Xue in double-figures was freshman Allison Martinez who came off the bench and led the team in scoring with 14 kills on .591 hitting. Additionally, Martinez contributed five digs and four service aces.
Freshman libero Carly Hill distributed 10 digs, while freshman Carly Aigner-Swesey was just one dig shy of a double-double as she posted 28 assists and nine digs.
Senior Emma Kirst led the Beach at the net with four total blocks after putting up one solo stop and three block assists.
Long Beach State will travel to Eugene, Ore., to take part in the Oregon Classic this weekend. The Beach open the tournament against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Friday, August 31 at 11 a.m., before going up against host, No. 18 Oregon, that night at 8 p.m. LBSU concludes the tournament on Saturday, September 1 at 11 a.m. versus Utah Valley.
