LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State (10-15) had some opportunities, but left nine men stranded on base in a 5-2 loss to No. 23 San Diego State (17-7) on Tuesday night.

Reigning Big West Player of the Week Clayton Andrews stayed hot at the plate with a walk and a pair of hits, including a double in the fourth inning to represent LBSU's first hit of the night. He also stole his seventh base of the season to match Jarren Duran for the team lead. Andrews' hitting streak now stands at five games after his sixth multi-hit game of the season.

Jacob Hughey started at first base for the second consecutive game and recorded a pair of singles with a run scored. Duran collected LBSU's lone RBI with a fifth-inning single up the middle. Hughey also joined Andrews in the select group of Dirtbags to play the field and pitch in the same game when he moved from first base to the mound in the ninth inning.

The Dirtbags stranded nine runners in the game, and had a number of opportunities late. LBSU left two men on in the seventh, had the bases loaded in the eighth and also put a runner on in the ninth to no avail.

LBSU goes back on the road this weekend to take on Fresno State for a three-game set. This weekend's series will be played on Thursday-Saturday with the first two games starting at 6 p.m. and the finale set for 2 p.m.

Long Beach State and San Diego State will play again next Tuesday in Lake Elsinore for a special meeting at Lake Elsinore Diamond, home of the San Diego Padres' Class A Advanced affiliate, the Lake Elsinore Storm.
