LA JOLLA, Calif. - Long Beach State track & field completed the San Diego College Challenge and the Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday, splitting the squad between La Jolla and Fullerton. The majority of the squad was on the campus of UC San Diego for the San Diego College Challenge, competing against the host Tritons, Navy, San Diego State, and others.

The Beach picked up victories in nine events, with four on the track and five in the field. On the men's side, Daniel York-Mouton won the 800-meter in a time of 1:57.49. The senior edged out teammate Braeden Kraft by just .03 to win the race.

The women's team also found success on the track, led by a group effort in the 200-meter dash. Azaria Hill won the event in a time of 25.08, going 1-2 with Anaya Alexander, who ran a 25.14. LBSU had four of the top six finishers in the race, with Shyann Reynolds (25.56) and Tavajia Richardson (26.15) also placing well. Also in a team effort, the 4x100 relay team of Hill, Courtne' Davis, Madison Golden and Ashleigh Chambers won the event in a time of 46.23. Elijah McDonald was also an event winner in the 100-meter hurdles, running a 14.21.

In men's field action, junior Josh Carr was a double winner in the men's hammer and discus throw. In the latter event, he led a strong group of Long Beach State competitors that made up five of the top seven finishers. In the women's hammer, Erykah McNairy led three Beach throwers in the top five, winning the event with a throw of 161-03. The Beach also went 1-2 in the women's long jump as Melanee Williams took first with a mark of 18-03, and teammate Allison Foster took second with a mark of 18-02.25.

Elsewhere on the day, junior Whitney Knox ran a PR of 58.89 in the women's 400, junior Delaney Smith matched her PR and took second in the women's high jump by clearing 5-01.75, and junior Blair Robinson took second in the men's triple jump with a 48-01.75, improving his personal best set last week at the Beach Opener. In the men's 4x400-meter relay, Long Beach State's young team of sophomore Patrick Higgins, sophomore Braeden Kraft, freshman Logan Schaefer, and freshman Ezra Sotelo took second with a time of 3:28.23.

In Friday action at the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton, LBSU had a solid day in field competition. McNairy posted a personal-best of 174-04 in her first attempt in the women's hammer throw. That mark stood up for the rest of the competition and made her the event winner in the DI competition. In the men's hammer throw, Carr set a new PR with a throw of 195-06 to place second. Teammate Nicholas Hudson finished just behind him in third with a 193-07, narrowly missing a PR of his own.

Long Beach State will return to action next weekend at the Trojan Invitational hosted by USC on Mar. 16-17 and the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. on Mar. 17.
