Lihue, Hawaii - Long Beach State made a move in the early half of the day, but ultimately ended up in 11th place out of 20 teams as the Beach wrapped up their time on Kauai at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
Andres Gonzalez birdied six out of his first eight holes on Saturday as Long Beach State came out strong in the first nine holes, helping hold consistent as the course played tougher throughout the day for most teams.
Gonzalez finished the day with an even par 72, leading the team for the tournament at a one-over 217 and tying for 33rd place. Patrick Pockels also carded a 72 on Saturday, lifting him into a tie for third amongst the LBSU contingent at 221 (+5) with Nick Cantlay in a tie for 58th. Hunter Reed, the team's leader over the first two rounds finished the tournament 3-over par at 219, while Joe Fryer closed the tournament at 224 (+8).
The Beach remained the top finishing team out of those participating from the Big West, leading the hosts Hawai'i, CSUN, UC Santa Barbara and beating their closest competitors, UC Irvine, by eight strokes on the weekend.
Next up for Long Beach State, the team will stay local to compete in the Southwestern Invitational, co-hosted by Pepperdine and USC at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. That tournament will begin on Monday, February 26.
