Gold Defeats Black In 26th Annual Black & Gold Track and Field Meet

Long Beach State ended with 10 records set or tied in the meet.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's Gold squad finished as the winners in the 26th annual Black and Gold Track Meet held Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
The gold team, led by captains Alexis Ceballos, Kennedy Krueger, Josh Carr and Kent Harris claimed a 257-215 win on Saturday.
Long Beach State saw runners tie records in both the sprint distances matching indoor competition in the 60-meter dash. Courtne' Davis was the women's champion with a 7.2 time, tied for first all time, while Ken Harris and Femi Ajose shared the top mark for the men with a time of 6.6 which was the best ever at the Black and Gold.
Davis also had a fast time in the 150 meter, picking up another win with a time of 17.2 seconds, setting a meet record.
The defending Big West Champion women's team saw more top times, as Skylin Harbin tied the meet record with an 8.5 second run in the 60m hurdles, and two more meet records fell in the 1K and 2K, as freshman Sofia Ramos ran a three-minute flat time in the 1,000 meters, while fellow freshman Leslie Diaz clocked a time of 6:46 in the 2000m.
In the field events, Diana Acholonu won the 8-step high jump with a mark of 5-9", scoring more points for the gold team, while Jason Smith won the men's side with a clearance of 7-1, both meet records.
Two other meet marks were set in the throws, as Charlie Vernoy won the men's discus with a record-tying mark of 180-0, and De'Ondra Young stamped her return to competition with a massive hammer throw of 197-10.
Indoor Track and Field season starts January 25th at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
