Tyler Spriggs’ Career-High Lifts Long Beach State Over UC Davis

LONG BEACH – Senior Tyler Spriggs had a career night as she slammed 23 kills on .417 hitting to lead Long Beach State to a 3-1 [25-21, 18-25, 25-21, 25-19] victory over UC Davis on Saturday night inside the Pyramid.
Spriggs' 23 kills marks a new career-best for the senior. She also hit .417 in the contest and added seven digs, five blocks and a pair of service aces in an all-around outstanding performance.

While Spriggs led the Beach (11-8, 3-3 Big West) offense, LBSU also received strong showings from Allison Martinez, who came off the bench and contributed eight kills on .389 hitting, and Emma Kirst, who tallied seven kills.
Freshman Carly Aigner-Swesey ran the offense as she dished out 36 assists and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Long Beach State also got some solid passing from freshman libero Carly Hill as she notched her third 20-dig effort of the season.
At the net, YiZhi Xue, Spriggs, and Kirst all contributed to the Beach's 13.0 total team blocks. Xue finished the match with six blocks, while Spriggs added five, and Kirst ad four.
LBSU's solid defense limited UC Davis (9-9, 1-5 Big West) to a .192 attack percentage as the Beach kept the Aggies off balance.
Long Beach State broke the first set open when the Beach used a 7-1 to turn a three-point deficit (10-7) into a three-point lead (14-11). Following that run, the Beach was in control as they held the lead the rest of the way, earning a 25-21 victory.
UC Davis jumped out in front 5-0 to start the second never allowed the Beach to come any closer than two (11-9). The Aggies hit .242 in the frame and limited the Beach to a .029 attack percentage as UC Davis evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 set win.
The Beach bounced back in the third set as they hit .244 to the Aggies' .122. Long Beach State broke a 12-12 tie on a kill by Kirst which sparked a 4-0 run that was highlighted by a pair of kills and a solo block from Spriggs. Now leading 16-12, Long Beach State went on to win, 25-21.
LBSU opened the fourth set with three straight points and never relinquished the lead. Despite the Aggies' effort, the Beach led throughout and collected a 25-19 victory en route to earning a four-set win.
Long Beach State will be back in action on Friday, October 12 when the Beach travel to Hawaii. The match is slated for a 10 p.m. (PT) start.
