Long Beach State Men Rank Sixth in USTFCCCA West Region Rankings

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's track and field team moved into the No. 5 spot in the most recent USTFCCCA West Region Rankings and the women's squad comes in at No. 13.
The Beach was the top-ranked Big West school, placing sixth spots ahead of No. 12 Cal State Fullerton. Long Beach State was also the first non-Pac-12 school to come in in the West as the Beach followed No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 USC, No. 4 Arizona, and No. 5 Cal. Coming in behind Long Beach State, were the remainder of the Pac-12 schools in Arizona State (7th), Washington (8th), Washington State (9th) and Stanford (11th).
Long Beach State leads the nation in the men's hammer throw and long jump. The Beach men's hammer throwers have totaled 250.12m (820-07.00) to lead the nation by more than 17 feet as second-place Rice has tallied (244.81m) 803-02.00.
In the long jump, the men's squad holds a slight edge on No. 2 Akron as the Beach have recorded a total distance of 30.13m (98-10.25), while the Zips are at 30.11m (98-09.50).
In addition to leading the nation in the two field events, the Beach men come in ranked in the top 10 in the country in the high jump (4th), pole vault (6th) and discus throw (8th).
Meanwhile, the LBSU women's squad has been just as impressive in the field posting a high jump total of 6.79m (22-03.25) to come in 11th in the nation. The Beach women rank in the Top 20 in the javelin (15th) and hammer throw (18th).
