LONG BEACH, Calif. - The 2017 Beach Tennis Fall Tournament got off to a great start for the hosts on Friday at Rhodes Tennis Center as Long Beach State put up a combined 8-3 record across singles and doubles action. Georgia Gulin, Natalia Munoz, and Lena Pacholski each went 3-0 on Friday to begin the weekend on the right note.

The two returning players competing this weekend for LBSU, Munoz and Pacholski, each made quick work of their opponents in the top singles flight. Munoz was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Portland State's Brianna Thompson and Pacholski also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0, against Big West rival Karla Dulay of UC Riverside. Munoz is now off to a 4-0 start to her sophomore campaign in singles play.

Freshman Sadaf Sadeghvaziri was a 6-4, 6-1 winner in Flight B singles, defeating UC Irvine's Ashlynn Hall 6-4, 6-1. Classmate Georgia Gulin also took down a conference rival in Flight C, cruising past UC Riverside's Tamilla Vaksman 6-1, 6-0 in her home debut.

There were also two rounds of doubles action on Friday, and the team of Munoz and Pacholski earned a pair of victories to advance to the Flight A semifinals. The experienced duo topped Van/Van of UC Riverside 6-3, then took care of Montana's pair of Kincaid/Bostrom by a 6-1 margin. Elsewhere, Gulin and partner Carlota Casasampere got a bye into the second round in Flight B, but defeated Kincaid/Bostrom 6-4 in an exhibition match. Then in the Flight B quarterfinal, LBSU's freshman pair got the best of Cal State Fullerton's Meng/Acidera tandem with another 6-4 victory.

Action resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m. with more doubles play, then there will be two rounds of singles to set up championship Sunday at the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament.
