Gonzalez Ties For Ninth Place At Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - Junior Andres Gonzalez fired a final round 68 on Saturday afternoon, to tie for ninth-place and lead Long Beach State to a sixth-place tie at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

LBSU posted a 288 to compete the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a 4-under-par 860, tying with tournament host Pacific.

No. 22 Santa Clara captured the team title at 30-under 834, as the Broncos held off second-place No. 29 BYU (-26) by four shots and 14 strokes over No. 48 Saint Mary's (-16) in third.

Gonzalez posted his best round of the tournament, collecting six birdies, two bogeys and 10 pars to finish with a 54-hole score of 7-under 209.

Junior Joe Fryer shot a 75 to tie for 42nd at 2-under 218, followed by fellow classmate Patrick Pockels tying for 51st after carding a 75 for a 4-over 220.

Senior Nick Cantlay and freshman Connor Nelson tied for 65th at 6-over 222. Cantlay posted a 79, while Nelson recored his lowest round of the tournament with a 70.

The Cougars' Patrick Fishburn claimed individual medalist with a 13-under 203, winning by one-shot over Tom Vining of South Dakota.

LBSU opens the spring season on Monday, Jan. 29, at the Waves Challenge at Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.
