LBSU Women's Tennis Dominates UC Davis, 4-0

Long Beach, Calif. - Saturday's tennis match between Long Beach State (7-2) and UC Davis (4-8) ended in quick and dominant fashion for the 49ers, who scored an abbreviated 4-0 victory over their conference rivals. The Beach could have earned a few more victories, but four matches were left unfinished with LBSU in firm control.
"It was a strong performance from top to bottom against a solid conference opponent," said LBSU head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello of the win.
The Beach was in firm control of the doubles action on Saturday, easily securing the doubles point. The top pair of Laura Eales and Hayley Thompson won their matchup 6-2, and Ebba Unden and Georgie Sanders were 6-0 winners at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, Maeva Razakasoa and Julie Gerard were up 5-1 and did not finish their match.
The matchup was moved along as quickly as possible so UC Davis could travel to UC Riverside for their contest later on in the day, leaving all matches not necessary to the final result left unfinished. That had the biggest impact in singles, where Unden, Thompson and Sanders were all leading their matches after winning the first set.
The three players who did finish their singles matches each won in dominant fashion, not losing more than two games in any of their sets. No. 57 ranked Razakasoa at top singles won her match over Davis' top player, Lani-Rae Green, by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Her doubles partner, Gerard, won her match 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and Eales was the biggest winner of the day at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
The win is the 23rd in a row for the Beach over Big West opponents during the regular season, dating back over three years.
LBSU has a huge weekend coming up at Rhodes Tennis Center against a pair of ranked opponents. The 49ers will host the No. 11 ranked Pepperdine Waves on Thursday at 2 p.m. then the No. 55 North Carolina State Wolfpack on Friday at 2 p.m.
