LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - Long Beach State senior Kevin Lee is one-over-par after two rounds of play at the 35th Anteater Invitational at El Niguel Country Club, tying for second-place and leading the Beach to second.
LBSU remains just five shots behind team leader and tournament host UC Irvine (+14) as the 49ers completed the first day at 19-over 595.
Lee remains just one stroke behind individual leader Jacob Schulze (E) of UC Irvine. The La Palma, Calif. native carded a 74 in the opening round to finish in fifth. Lee posted a four-shot improvement for a second round 71 to move up five spots in the standings.
Senior Daniel Chian is tied for sixth at four-over after shooting a 75 and 73, while redshirt freshman Joe Fryer is tied for eighth at five-over after turning in rounds of 76 and 73.
Senior Michael Chen tied for 28th at 11-over (77-78) and junior Nick Cantlay is tied for 33rd at 13-over (81-76).
Junior Jonny Hogan (+15) and freshman Nick Choi (+22), playing as individuals for the 49ers, tied for 44th and 59th respectively.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 8:40 a.m. from the first tee with the Anteaters and Drexel.
