Beach Tennis Cruises To Black & Blue Rivalry Win Over UC Irvine, 6-1

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State women's tennis returned to action Friday afternoon, getting back into Big West action against Black & Blue rival UC Irvine. Determined to win, LBSU came out firing on all cylinders today as they defeated UCI by a score of 6-1.
In singles competition, Long Beach State was nearly perfect winning five of its six matches. At the top of the lineup, No.1 Maeva Razakasoa and No. 2 Ebba Unden both won their matches in straight sets. Razakasoa, who is ranked No. 57 in the nation in the most recent ITA rankings, defeated Sarah Gong 6-2, 6-4, while Unden took care of Vivian Dvali by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Laura Eales, slotted at No. 5, had a solid performance as well, defeating Cassidy Branstine 6-1, 7-5.
Long Beach State shined its brightest today during doubles competition as they won all three matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Hayley Thompson and Laura Eales, recently ranked No. 55 in the country, faced a tough opponent in Stephanie Hazell and Sarah Gong, but they would eventually prevail as they won 7-6 (4). At No. 2, Julie Gerard and Razakasoa shared a final score that was similar to the first match. They would defeat Andrea Duva and Dvali 7-6 (4).
Friday's victory for Long Beach State improves its record to 4-2 overall, and 2-0 in conference play, while UCI falls to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the Big West. LBSU will square off against the visiting Aztecs of San Diego State tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center.
