San Diego, Calif. - With day one of the 2016 ITA Southwest Regionals in the books, Long Beach State advanced three singles players and one doubles pair to Friday's round of 32. Action resumes at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with singles and doubles action.
Hayley Thompson won a pair of matches on Thursday, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Berta Acero of San Diego State before defeating LMU's Camila Tumosa 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. The other two players to reach the round of 32 had the benefit of first-round byes on Thursday, meaning both Maeva Razakasoa and Julie Gerard needed just one victory on day one.
Razakasoa breezed past UC Riverside's Tracy Van, 6-1, 6-0, easily dispatching her Big West rival. Gerard had a similarly comfortable match, defeating Grand Canyon's Susie Baklini, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Razakasoa and Thompson teamed up to defeat Tumosa and Shiobahn Anderson of LMU by a score of 8-3. Meanwhile, LBSU's freshman team of Maren Helgo and Natalia Munoz had a bye on Thursday, putting a second Beach team in the doubles round of 32.
