LONG BEACH - Long Beach State track & field alum and volunteer assistant coach Colin Dunbar was the runner-up in the hammer throw at the NACAC Senior Area Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica, Aug. 7-9.
Dunbar, who was one of two Americans competing in the hammer on Sunday, secured the silver medal with a toss of 235-04. That mark was better than the previous meet record, but trailed Cuba's Roberto Janet by a few feet (238-07).
Dunbar was selected to represent Team USA based on his sixth-place finish at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in June. He owns a lifetime best of 241-04.
Dunbar graduated from Long Beach State in 2011. As a senior, he led the Beach to a Big West team title by personally accounting for 29 points. Dunbar was the conference champion in the hammer and discus, while also finishing third in the shot put and sixth in the javelin. He was named the USTFCCCA West Region and Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Year. Dunbar went on to earn All-America honors in the hammer and discus.
The NACAC Championships is an event organized by the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association.
