LONG BEACH - Long Beach State head women's basketball coach Jody Wynn has announced the 49ers' schedule for the upcoming 2015-16 season. LBSU will play six of its 14 non-conference games inside the friendly confines of the Walter Pyramid.
"Our schedule will give us a great opportunity to be tested against very competitive teams," Wynn said. "We have a strong mix of opponents from all over the country and we are excited to have the chance to compete against them. There will be some terrific road game environments and also some fantastic programs coming to the Pyramid for our Beach supporters to enjoy. We will be challenged early on and are looking forward to preparing our team for a very competitive Big West Conference season."
The Beach will be searching for its fifth-straight home-opening victory when it kicks off the campaign against San Diego State on Friday, Nov. 13. Long Beach State is also set to entertain Portland State on Sunday, Nov. 15.
LBSU then begins a five-game road swing at Houston (Nov. 19) and SEC member LSU (Nov. 21). LSU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four seasons. The 49ers defeated the Lady Tigers, 59-44, at the Walter Pyramid last year.
Long Beach State will also travel to Las Cruces, N.M., for the New Mexico State Tournament (Nov. 27-28), before making a quick trip to Stockton, Calif., to face Pacific on Dec. 2. Pacific, which made the move from the Big West to the West Coast Conference prior to the 2013-14 season, has made four-straight WNIT appearances.
The Beach returns home to host Pac-12 member Colorado (Dec. 6) and 2015 WNIT participant San Francisco (Dec. 8), prior to a road contest at USC on Dec. 13. The 49ers will then host the annual Beach Classic, Dec. 19-20.
Following a one-week layoff, LBSU will hit the road to close out its non-conference schedule at Denver (Dec. 28) and Seattle (Dec. 31).
Long Beach State begins conference play at home against defending Big West regular season champion Hawai'i on Jan. 7. The 2016 Big West Tournament is slated for March 8-12. The first two rounds will be held at UC Irvine's Bren Events Center, while the semifinals and finals will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
