BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Eric Hutting his two of Long Beach State's three home runs but it wasn't enough to hold off Indiana as the Dirtbags dropped the series finale 8-5. Brock Lundquist homered for the second consecutive game as Long Beach State hit three homers for the third time in the last four games.
Another early lead faded away for the Dirtbags (25-22) as Indiana used a four-run seventh to take the series finale. The Hoosiers (28-20) sent 10 to the plate in the deciding inning to complete its second comeback in as many days.
Lundquist again lifted the Dirtbags in the first inning with a two-run homer. In the third, Tristan Mercadel added to the Dirtbags lead. Garrett Hampson previously legged out a double and then scored on Mercadel's single.
Indiana got on the board in the third with a two-out rally that plated two runs. Hutting launched his first solo homer in the fifth to give the Dirtbags a 4-2 lead and went deep again in the seventh to give the Dirtbags a 5-4 lead after the Hoosiers tied it up in the bottom of the fifth.
Casey Rodrigue was the catalyst for Indiana all game long, going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and scoring three times. He was hit by a pitch to start the two-out rally in the third and tripled in a run before scoring the tying run in the fifth. He doubled in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5 and later scored the go-ahead run on Brad Hartong's single.
After the Dirtbags tagged Caleb Baragar for four runs in four and a third innings, the Indiana bullpen allowed just one run on three hits in the remaining four and two-thirds. Ryan Halstead tossed two scoreless innings to get his ninth save.
Long Beach State sent four pitchers to the mound in the seventh during Indiana's game-deciding rally before Ty Provencher struck out Austin Cangelosi to end the frame with the bases loaded. He went on to pitch a perfect eighth.
Long Beach State plays its final four home games of the season next week. San Diego comes into Blair Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to begin the homestand.
