Hampson Named To Brooks Wallace Watch List

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Sophomore shortstop Garrett Hampson has been named to the initial watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award for the second year in a row. The award recognizes the nation's top shortstop and is presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas.
Hampson, who was included on the initial watch list as a freshman, is leading the Dirtbags offensively while hitting at the top of the lineup. He leads the squad with a .308 batting average and 28 runs scored. He also has a team-leading 14 stolen bases in 17 attempts.
The sophomore from Reno, Nev. is one of 47 shortstops from 23 conferences on the initial watch list and one of three in the Big West. With three selections, the Big West is one of six conferences to have at least three shortstops recognized.
The Dirtbags are in Cal Poly this weekend for a three-game Big West series.
