Fullerton, Calif. - Long Beach State nearly came all the way back against San Jose State, scoring a pair of runs but came up one short, falling 4-3 in the team's opener at the Judy Garman Classic. Lauren Lombardi went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to lead the Beach.

Long Beach State (record) took an early lead, scoring in the first inning. LT Torres walked, and then was able to come around all the way from first on a double from Lauren Lombardi, beating the Spartan throw to make the score 1-0.

San Jose State rallied to take the lead in the second inning. After a walk to Sharon-Renae Estrada, Alyssa Martinez homered to give SJSU a 2-1 lead. A double from Erin Rodriguez continued the inning, and after an error by Shayna Kimbrough, a single from Emma Entzminger brought home a third run, and a sacrifice fly made the score 4-1 in favor of San Jose State.

Lauren Lombardi hit a solo home run to pull back a run for the 49ers in the fourth, and Long Beach State pushed across another run in the fifth. Kimbrough and Torres hit back-to-back singles to start the inning, and after being pushed into scoring position, a wild pitch brought home Kimbrough to make the score 4-3.

Allison Lang entered in relief of Madison Fish for San Jose State in the fifth, and held the 49ers to just one hit the rest of the way to collect the save. For the 49ers, Selene Polamalu had a strong relief performance as well, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up just a pair of hits.
