Beach Golf Sweeps At SDSU Farms Invitational Match Play

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Long Beach State earned two hard fought victories on Tuesday, defeating Nevada and Kansas at the SDSU Farms Invitational match play at The Farms Golf Club.
The 11th-seeded 49ers defeated the Wolf Pack in the second round and the Jayhawks in the third by a score of 3-2 in both matches.
LBSU will now face ninth-seeded Houston in the consolation championship on Wednesday. The 49ers and Cougars will tee off at 8:35 a.m. from the 10th tee.
Junior Shawnee Martinez posted her second consecutive victory, prevailing over Bethany Wurster of the 14th-seeded Wolfpack, 4 & 2, while fellow classmates Kassidy Teare and Janelle Sua recorded their first wins of the tournament in the best-of-five series.
Teare ended the first half of the day at 2 & 1 over Jordan Keyser, while Sua came out on top over Caryn Khoo, 3 & 2.
Senior Chaewon Park fell to Celyn Khoo at 1 up and Savannah Knox fell to Nikki Prichard, 3 & 2.
In the afternoon third-round, the 49ers continued with their strong performance versus 10th-seeded Kansas to advance to the consolation title match as Park bounced back to earn her first victory, defeating Kallie Gonzales, 2 up.
Teare earned her second consecutive victory, defeating KU's Pornvipa Sakdee, 4 & 3, while Knox came back to post a third round win over Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, 4 & 2.
Sua's match with the Jayhawks' Minami Levonowich was not completed due to darkness.
